Welcome to the next instalment of our 5 Mins With segment. This week we met Laura O’Dowd, our Senior Finance Manager in Blueface, A Comcast Business Company. Laura is well and truly part of Blueface’s DNA and cultural spirit, recently celebrating her 7-year anniversary.
A wealth of finance experience, in Ireland and abroad, Laura has evolved over the years in Blueface and transformed our systems and processes too!
Find out some things you didn’t know about Laura, including questionable Irish traits(or lack of), what she loves most about Blueface and more.
Tell Us How It All Began For Laura?
Things started out in a very different direction for me, studying History and English in college. Unsure of the path I wanted to take after college I took up the opportunity to join KPMG as a trainee accountant.
I got the opportunity to move to Canada with this role which was a great experience. I eventually came back to Ireland working as a Financial Accountant and have continued down the Financial path ever since.
Why Work at Blueface?
I started in Blueface in 2014, and since then my role has developed a lot and I have gained massive exposure to all parts of the business. I’ve learned from the ground up. I love my job and being part of the Finance team because it means we get to interact with every part of the business.
Some days we’re working with the developers and the sales team, fleshing out new products, other days we’re collaborating with onboarding on easier ways to get new customers up and running. There’s loads of variety and there’s always a new challenge or something to learn.
Something We Didn’t Know About Laura O’Dowd?
I have lived in Ireland all my life but have a few confessions that might make my fellow Irish colleagues question my Irishness. The first being, up until last year I had never seen some very famous landmarks such as the Cliffs of Moher and the Giant’s Causeway. Also, I DON’T DRINK TEA. Yes, I believe I could be the only Irish person to say such a thing.
Please don’t take away my citizenship!
If You Could Switch Job with Someone in Blueface, Who Would it be?
It would have to be Joe Roche, our Head of Marketing. I’d love to learn more about that side of things and flex my creative muscles coming up with campaigns.
I’d also love to have his skill for talking with people, he has the gift of the gab. I’m pretty sure you could parachute him into any situation and an hour later he’d have a load of new friends and have sold Blueface to them all.
What’s your Proudest Blueface Moment?
When I started with Blueface back in 2014 we had 18 employees in Ireland. Now, we have over 150 people based across multiple countries around the world. It’s been one of the most gratifying parts of the journey here, to see all our passion and hardwork pay off. We’ve grown into a fantastic company and now as part of Comcast Business I’m sure we’ll continue going onwards and upwards!
