The Ireland Funds Business Plan Competition 2013

A highlight of our summer calendar is happening next week with the Ireland Funds Business Plan Competition 2013 on the 18th of June. The event, hosted at the Guinness Enterprise Centre, aims to strengthen participants’ understanding of how to successfully develop and pitch their business plans to potential investors, by putting them in front of a judging panel of leading entrepreneurs, executives and venture capitalists, who provide constructive feedback on the business ideas themselves as well as the pitches.

We are looking forward to seeing some of the innovative and creative ideas on show – last year’s winner ‘Coindrum’ is a fantastic initiative which allows airline travellers to exchange unwanted loose change for vouchers that can be spent in airport shops.

The competition, now in its second year, is open to early stage entrepreneurs including post-graduate students, students completing their final year of an undergraduate course or who are under the age of 30. Shortlisted candidates received 16 hours of additional training at the DCU Ryan Academy on developing a business model canvas and on creating a winning pitch; before six were selected to progress to the final.

At next Tuesday’s event, finalists will compete for the top prize of €10,000 cash and other supports, including financial advice from Bank of Ireland, incubation space at the Guinness Enterprise Centre/DCU Ryan Academy and an introduction to contact in The Ireland Funds wider network. CEO of Blueface, Alan Foy, will join the judging panel along with entrepreneurs, executives and venture capitalists from across Ireland and the US.
