IWD: Blueface Celebrates Women in Tech
Firstly, Happy International Women’s Day 2021! Today, we celebrate women across the globe and embrace this years’ theme #choosetochallenge. Blueface believes in challenging the status quo when it comes to diversity, awareness and inclusivity across our teams. In particular, confronting gender normalisation of women in tech, engineering and IT service industries.
In 2020, women represented 46.9% of all those in the global workforce (Catalyst). However, despite making up nearly half of the world’s workforce only 25% of tech workers are women (Adeba).
“Only 17% of ICT specialists are women. Only 34% of STEM graduates are women.” Womentech Network
At Blueface, we want to provide a platform for women to prosper in tech, and empower our team to be leaders in their space. In light of this, let’s meet some of our leading ladies who work for the many technology departments of Blueface. In essence, they are the true drivers of change for the industry.

What does the future hold for women in technology, and how can we all play our part?
Over the last few years, many of the world’s leading IT companies have been making a proactive effort to recruit and train more women within IT Services and STEM. As a result, companies worldwide are beginning to see that diversity generates innovation, better business, and more revenue.
“Companies with the greatest gender diversity (8 out of every 20 managers were female) generated about 34% of their revenues from innovative products and services in the most recent three-year period.” Boston Consulting Group.
‘Diversity’ is no longer just a buzzword for businesses. Instead, diversity should be actioned with strategies set in place.
This can be done through small, impactful changes, including, more women involved in the recruitment process and a cultural focus on unconscious bias. Additionally, providing working flexibility and non-traditional working arrangements will remove some barriers that can deter women from certain roles.
We can all #choosetochallenge for International’s Women Day 2021 and everyday, so gender diversity in tech and across all industries is achieved to build a better tomorrow for the next generation.
